There is a specific kind of magic that happens when the Nigerian diaspora gathers—a blend of high fashion, deep faith, and an unmistakable warmth that feels like home, even thousands of miles away from Lagos or Abuja.

Yesterday, February 7th, 2026, the International Christian Center Los Angeles (ICCLA) transformed into a sanctuary of romance and reflection for the 24th Annual “Hand In Hand” Celebration of Marriage. This year’s theme, “Love in Action,” wasn’t just a title on a backdrop; it was a living, breathing reality felt in every corner of the ballroom.

An Evening of Elegance and Intimacy

Love was definitely in the air as couples arrived, many dressed in stunning traditional attire and sophisticated evening wear that honored both their heritage and the gravity of the occasion. The room was a sea of deep burgundies, shimmering golds, and classic blacks, perfectly complemented by tables adorned with lush red roses and sparkling crystal centerpieces.

For a relationship expert observing the night, it was clear that this wasn’t just another social gala. It was a dedicated space for couples to tune out the noise of busy Los Angeles life and tune back into each other.

Renewing the “Why”

Hosted by the visionary leadership of Dr. Dipo Kalejaiye and Dr, Nony Kalejaiye, Senior  Pastors at ICCLA, the evening focused on the core of every successful union: Remembrance.

Under the soft glow of the chandeliers, couples stood hand-in-hand to reaffirm their commitment. Tears were wiped away as husbands and wives looked into each other’s eyes, speaking promises that have been tested by time and strengthened by grace.

Joy, Laughter, and “Love in Action”

The night was far from solemn. True to the spirit of our community, the celebration was infused with vibrant energy:

  • Exquisite Dining: Guests enjoyed a curated menu that sparked conversation and connection.

  • Laughter and Connection: From lighthearted “couple games” to the shared stories across the tables, the room was filled with the kind of laughter that heals and bonds.

  • A Community of Support: Seeing generations of marriages—from those in their first few years to “veterans” of several decades—offered a powerful testament to the diaspora’s resilience and dedication to the family unit.

“Marriage is not just a word; it is a verb. It is love in action, every single day.”

The Heartbeat of the Diaspora

For Nigerians in the diaspora, events like Hand In Hand are vital. They serve as a bridge between our cultural values and our current realities, proving that even in the fast-paced West, the sanctity of marriage remains a priority. ICCLA has once again provided a masterclass in how to nurture the “Us” in a world that often focuses on the “Me.”

As the night ended and couples stepped out into the cool California air, they carried more than just party favors. They left with renewed hearts, strengthened bonds, and a fresh commitment to keep their Love in Action until the 25th anniversary and beyond.
